Yet Another Mall Shooting Reported in South Carolina

Mall

Patrons of malls in South Carolina face serious threats from gun violence. Although some malls are clearly more dangerous than others, gun violence seems to be occurring in malls throughout the entire state. The latest incident sent shockwaves through the local community of Charleston, reminding us all of how bad youth violence has become. Once one of the most popular pastimes in South Carolina, visiting a local shopping center is now a risky endeavor indeed. What can you do if you were injured in a South Carolina mall shooting?

Firefight Breaks Out in Citadel Mall Food Court

In August of 2024, a shooting was reported at the Citadel Mall in Charleston. According to the police, a firefight broke out in the food court. Initially, the altercation merely involved fistfights between two rival factions – but the situation soon escalated. A single shot was fired – and the round impacted a teenager involved in the altercation.

The teen was quickly hospitalized, and he survived with what the police referred to as “non-life-threatening” injuries. However, there was no word on whether these injuries were permanently disabling or disfiguring. Such outcomes are common when individuals are struck by bullets at South Carolina malls.

One individual was detained by responding officers, and this suspect was eventually charged with various felonies. This individual was also a teen – highlighting the issue of youth violence in South Carolina. Many concerned residents point out that these teens seem to be completely unruly and without any adult supervision. They also tend to carry firearms that are obviously illegally obtained.

Questions Raised Over Safety at the Citadel Mall

One has to wonder whether security personnel at Citadel Mall could have done anything to prevent this gun violence. Although the mall was closed on the day of the attack, it quickly reopened and resumed normal operations. Did staff learn anything from this incident? Will they improve their security measures to prevent further incidents? Or will they continue with the same security plan as before?

This is not the first shooting that has occurred at Citadel Mall – and it probably won’t be the last. In 2019, a woman was fatally struck during another shooting in the mall’s parking lot.

The fact that numerous shootings have occurred at the same location suggests that the mall is not taking sufficient steps to address gun violence. This lack of decisive action could pave the way for negligent security lawsuits, and anyone who is injured by further gun violence could potentially sue the mall.
