Train, Semi-Truck, and Military Tank Collide in “Bomb-Like” South Carolina Crash

CarFire2

It’s not every day that you see a semi-truck, tank, and train collide. While this crash made headlines across the nation, semi-truck accidents in South Carolina are actually quite common – and they cause considerable destruction across the State. If you were harmed by a semi-truck crash, you may have legal options for compensation.

Train Smashes Through Semi-Truck Carrying Military Tank

In September of 2024, it was reported that a freight train had smashed into a semi-truck at high speed in Goose Creek, South Carolina. That semi-truck was hauling a military tank – later identified as an M109 “Paladin” howitzer. Witnesses say that the semi-truck somehow became stuck on the tracks and was unable to move the vehicle before the impact. Video footage of the crash went viral, and this video clearly depicts the tank being “rattled” by the freight train impact.

However, images from the aftermath of the collision show the tank in seemingly good condition. However, a separate source reported that the vehicle is a complete write-off – representing a $1.5 million loss for the military. CSX, the company that operated the freight train, issued a statement warning vehicles to obey traffic signs and stay off the tracks. This implies that the semi-truck driver was at fault for getting himself into this situation.

Miraculously, no one was hurt in this incident. The truck driver reportedly waited until the last possible moment to run from the truck, and he desperately tried to get the truck moving seconds before the impact. Witnesses say the impact was “like a bomb going off.”

FedEx Semi-Truck Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel

Elsewhere in the nation, a FedEx semi-truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing a crash with a second semi-truck before rolling over. The accident occurred on the I-15 in Utah, and it serves as a grave reminder of how dangerous the trucking industry can be. Both the FedEx driver and another employee were injured with non-life-threatening injuries.

All it takes is a brief moment of negligence, and a semi-truck driver can cause serious harm and destruction to everyone on the road. It doesn’t matter whether that negligence involves falling asleep, getting stuck on train tracks, or intoxication. All negligence puts people in danger – and it may lead to personal injury lawsuits.

Although these crashes didn’t cause serious injuries, they could have been much worse – and semi-truck accidents often prove fatal.
