South Carolina Hit With Numerous Public Shootings

PI_Claim2

Gas stations, hotels, restaurants, and malls are all important components of our society in South Carolina. But are they safe to visit? A number of recent shootings at these locations highlight growing security threats throughout the State – and innocent people are paying the price. One might argue that these incidents also constitute security failures – as property owners are responsible for keeping their premises safe. In some cases, these security failures can lead to negligent security lawsuits in South Carolina.

Security Engages in Gun Battle With Myrtle Beach Bar Patrons

In September of 2024, it was reported that security officers had engaged in a gunfight with bar patrons in Myrtle Beach. Police officers arrived at the scene to find shell casings scattered across the ground. Although the details are somewhat unclear, a victim claims to have come under fire from assailants in a passing vehicle. He may have returned fire, and security staff may have also opened fire during the exchange. This happened at around the same time a different bar patron opened fire on security staff at another Myrtle Beach bar.

Teen Shot in the Head After McDonald’s Altercation

In late August of 2024, it was reported that a teenager had miraculously survived a gunshot to the head after an altercation at a McDonald’s in Rock Hill. Officers say that the teen then succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby healthcare facility. The victim was reportedly speaking to individuals in a gray SUV when the occupants opened fire on him. Police reported that they had arrested one individual, but were still searching for the actual shooter. Shootings at fast food restaurants are becoming far too common in South Carolina.

South Carolina Gas Station and Restaurant Intentionally Set on Fire

While shootings represent obvious security failures, arson is another major concern in South Carolina. In September of 2024, police announced that a gas station and restaurant in Florence County had been intentionally set on fire. The fire occurred at 9:50 AM – during operating hours. Although no one was injured, this incident could have been much worse – and police are searching for the people responsible. Two individuals were captured leaving the establishment shortly after the fire began – and these are prime suspects according to the police.
