In late August of 2024, it was reported that a teenager had miraculously survived a gunshot to the head after an altercation at a McDonald’s in Rock Hill. Officers say that the teen then succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby healthcare facility. The victim was reportedly speaking to individuals in a gray SUV when the occupants opened fire on him. Police reported that they had arrested one individual, but were still searching for the actual shooter. Shootings at fast food restaurants are becoming far too common in South Carolina.

South Carolina Gas Station and Restaurant Intentionally Set on Fire 

While shootings represent obvious security failures, arson is another major concern in South Carolina. In September of 2024, police announced that a gas station and restaurant in Florence County had been intentionally set on fire. The fire occurred at 9:50 AM – during operating hours. Although no one was injured, this incident could have been much worse – and police are searching for the people responsible. Two individuals were captured leaving the establishment shortly after the fire began – and these are prime suspects according to the police.
