Violence Erupts Across South Carolina Gas Stations, Malls, and Restaurants

Lawsuit

The average South Carolina resident faces serious threats at various establishments, and a recent surge in violent crime shows that there are few safe locations left. Whether you’re filling up at a gas station, grabbing a bite to eat, or walking through a mall, assaults can occur when you least expect them. Within the space of just a few days, countless acts of violence have left patrons and customers with serious psychological and physical injuries. What can you do if you were hurt in one of these attacks? Can you file a negligent security lawsuit in South Carolina?

Numerous Gas Station Assaults Shock Citizens

On June 11th, authorities reported that a man had been shot and killed at a South Carolina gas station. US Marshals had been pursuing him for almost a month after he carried out a fatal stabbing in Jacksonville. Although it might seem encouraging to see the elimination of a dangerous murderer, average citizens could have been hit in the crossfire. One day earlier, another man entered a South Carolina gas station and stole cigarettes and cash at gunpoint. Fortunately, he was later apprehended by police – and no one was injured. These incidents – just days apart – highlight just how dangerous gas stations have become in South Carolina.

Mall Evacuated After Guns Brandished

On June 8th of 2024, officers were forced to evacuate the Northwoods Mall due to criminals brandishing firearms on the premises. The standoff occurred in the food court, and it allegedly involved two rival gangs. Fortunately, no shots were fired – and the situation was resolved. However, similar incidents have left dozens of innocent bystanders dead or seriously injured. Citizens were concerned to learn that everyone involved in the standoff managed to escape the police, and zero arrests were made.

Suspect Arrested After Opening Fire in Restaurant

On June 1st, an employee of a restaurant was taken into custody after firing upon a co-worker during their shift. Police say that customers were inside the restaurant at the time of the offense, implying that an innocent person could have easily been struck by a stray bullet. The shooting was reportedly sparked by a “work-related dispute.”

Bus Station Stabbing Leaves One Dead

Also in June, a woman was stabbed to death while standing at a Myrtle Beach bus stop. It’s not clear what sparked the assault, but the suspect has been taken into custody.
